Cause and Effect

The other day I was watching the Goonies while on Facebook and came across my favorite scene in the movie, where chunk breaks Mikey’s mom’s statue. I have taken the time to break down the process and put in into a simple cause and effect scenario. There are a series of causes that lead up to this event, and they are as follows: 1. Chunk is incredibly clumsy, 2. he sets the statue, after knocking it off the table before, too close to the edge of the table, and 3. he is distracted with telling them all of how he saved it the first time. He knocks the statue over and the penis breaks off. Three specific outcomes come from this event, and they are as follows: 1. Chunk feels bad for breaking the statue, 2. they put the penis back on upside down, and 3. Mikey’s mom comes home early. All of these factors put together make quite the hilarious scene.

Advocacy

Everyone knows that compassion is one of the most powerful and all around good emotions you could have for someone or something, and Chunk displays this very well in the Goonies with his initial reaction to Sloth, so why would someone have an abortion? Abortions in no way are an act of compassion and require quite selfish desires to go through with. Most of the abortions performed in the United States are performed for selfish reasons such as not wanting to deal with the child or claiming one is not responsible enough to care for a baby. There is an easy fix for the case of the lack of responsibility, wear a condom or stay abstinate. It is more compassionate to think of the possibilities of having a child one isn’t ready for before having unprotected sex than it is to not wear a condom because it “feels better”, and then immediately abort the unborn child at the first sign of pregnancy. Like the Black Eyed Peas once said, where is the love?
